Regional Trade Facilitation seminar in Senegal

On the 21-23 March 2016, the ITC, the Commission of the West-African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) and the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation are organizing a regional trade facilitation workshop in Dakar, Senegal.

The key objective of this event is to refine the modalities of a coordinated approach of the TFA implementation in the regional and more specifically to:

  •         Advocate for and provide assistance for the ratification of the WTO TFA
  •         Review National Trade Facilitation Committees (NTFC) implementation status, best-practices and challenges
  •         Identify the measures that could be:
    •    Harmonized at the regional level (i.e. common implementation modalities)
    •    Coordinated at the regional level (i.e. the timing of implementation should be aligned the Member States to maximize benefits of reforms)
    •    Implemented by the WAEMU secretariat on behalf of the Member States (e.g. one regional Enquiry point instead of 8 national ones)
  •         Consolidate country needs for technical and financial assistance at the regional level for selected measures
  •         Design the regional institutional framework that will facilitate the harmonized and coordinated implementation of the TFA in WAEMU region

This workshop will gather representatives from each of the 8 Member states from:

  •         Ministry of trade
  •         National Trade Facilitation Committee
  •         Customs
  •         Private sector (e.g. chamber of commerce, shippers’ councils)
