To support Belizean government’s policy goal of bringing fiber connection to the home, a concessional loan was provided to the Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL), a state-owned telecommunications company and a major player in the Belizean market, to serve as a foundation for government and businesses to better adopt ICT techniques/tools, which will contribute to streamlining and increasing transparency and efficiency in customs clearance (e.g., e-data interchange, e-documents, customs automation, online tracking movement of goods, e-single windows) to facilitate trade.

The project is under implementation (Implementation period: June 28, 2018 to June 27, 2021).
As of the end of May 2019, people in major cities, towns and villages across the country have had access to faster and cheaper internet services provided by the fiber network constructed.
